Popcorn: A Feast For Your Senses

One of the simplest, guilt-free, happiest (and least expensive) pleasures that I like to indulge in is eating popcorn.  I love everything about it: the sound of it exploding in the popper, the aroma of the freshly popped kernels, and especially its taste and crunchy texture.  The preparation and the anticipation of eating  the popcorn are as exciting to me as actually eating it – it’s a total sensory experience.  Recently I’ve discovered different kinds of kernels to try (including a black variety – who knew?), which keeps the experience new for me.  And so many good memories are linked to popcorn for me: Dad popping it on the stove and putting in a big brown paper bag to salt (an occasional treat for us kids!), eating popcorn balls at a school Halloween party,  sharing a tub of the stuff with a date at the movies (and sharing a bowl with my husband now as we watch an HBO series on the couch, cats on our laps,  in our home).  Popcorn is such a feel-good comfort food – and it’s high in fiber, not that I spend much thought on that fact, but it’s good to know it’s good for you, right? 😉
